Best in Show: Scottish Terrier Wins Top Prize at Westminster

A four-and-half-year-old Scottish Terrier named Sadie won Best in Show at the 134th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, held at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Monday and Tuesday, February 15th and 16th. Sadie, a.k.a. Ch. Roundtown Mercedes of Maryscot, is the eighth Scottish Terrier to be awarded the top-dog crown.

Over the last five years, dogs that took the top title of Best In Show were:
2009: Stump, a 10-year-old Sussex Spaniel. This senior dog’s surprise victory thrilled the crowd
2008: Uno, the first Beagle to win the show
2007: James, an English Springer Spaniel
2006: Rufus, a coloured Bull Terrier
2005: Carlee, a German Shorthaired Pointer

Hound Winner

Whippet Ch Starline’s Chanel whipped his competitors, including the second-place taker, a Greyhound, third place Scottish Deerhound, and fourth place Petits Bassets Griffons Vendeen.

Toy Winner

The Toy Group was taken by Toy Poodle Ch Smash JP Moon Walk. Second, third, and fourth places went to a Pekingese, Shih Tzu, Papillon, respectively.

Non-sporting

French Bulldog Ch Robobull Fabelhaft Im On Fire was the champion of the Non-sporting Group. Nipping at his heels was the second place Chinese Shar-Pei, third place Bulldog, and fourth place Miniature Poodle.

Herding Winner

Winner of the Hearding Group was Puli Ch Cordmaker Field Of Dreams. Second, third, and fourth places went to a Belgian Sheepdog, a Bearded Collie, and a German Shepherd Dog.

Sporting Winner

Brittany Ch Willowick Talltean took the Sporting Group. An Irish Water Spaniel, a Gordon Setter, and a Labrador Retriever took second, third, and fourth places.

Working Winner

Doberman Pinscher Ch Allure Blazing Star Alisaton took first place in the Working Group. Second, third, and fourth places went to a Boxer, a Portuguese Water Dog, and an Alaskan Malamute.

Terrier Winner

Sadie, the Scottish Terrier that went on to win Best in Show, first out-performed her Terrier Group competitors, including the Smooth Fox Terrier, Norwich Terrier, and Airedale Terrier that took respective second, third, and fourth places.
