Yoda

Pitbull

Meet Yoda

I am guilty of ignoring Gods gentle knocks at my door sometimes…even when they gradually become louder and more forceful….but not when it comes in the shape of a sausage link with four legs. I accidentally stumbled upon a gift in the form of a photo, on a dangerously addictive website, Petfinder.com. I knew immediately I couldn’t live without the sweet, velvety face of this warm pitbull with his head tilted halfway to the left, enormous ears and wondrous eyes. I needed a puppy like I needed those Monolo Blahnik strappy sandals that almost cost me a divorce. I immediately called A Wish for Animals rescue who were desperately trying to get him out of the pound and told them I was the perfect family for him. Did I mention I hadn’t asked my husband yet? In no time my new puppy was finally in my arms, under my wings, protected against any harm that had ever or would ever find him again. My sweet and wise boy, my Yoda. Yoda was a cuddle bug. He would follow us around the house like, well, a puppy. His favorite pastime was in the lap of a family member and he would nestle into our bodies as if we were his giant teddy bear; here at his disposal. After the 5th day in our family I noticed he wasn’t looking very good and had started vomiting blood. I rushed him to the hospital where they found he had ingested beef jerky shaped strips of a football which had to have been sometime prior to his even being in the shelter. I sat in the waiting room with my heart in a heaping pile of muck in the middle of the cold lobby floor. This boy, my life, my family member, was in danger – the very danger I vowed to shield him from the day I laid eyes on him. I called A Wish for Animals again for advice, support or just a shoulder to lean on. They promised me they would help us through this. They promised me they would do all they could to assist with his bill and ensure his recovery. Shortly after, we also learned he was suffering from kidney disease, a bruised pelvis and enflamed spine. AWFA covered his surgery costs, post-surgery care, found and paid for a fantastic doctor who is currently reversing his kidney disease and restoring his puppy-like energy. They also provide him with his daily medication, special kidney disease food, sub-cutaneous fluid injections that he needs everyother day and any needed follow-up care. Their compassion for their rescuers and their rescued is astounding, powerful and endless. I knew at that moment we were all one family. Without the unrelenting effort from A Wish for Animals, Yoda would not be the happy, energetic, and down-right snuggle-bunny that he is today. He has attracted his own fan-base at the dog park and his favorite thing to do is cuddle while snorting and licking your face. When I come home each day he never fails to greet me with a tail wag so powerful it knocks him off his own chubby legs. My life has forever changed and now overflows with the love that was given to both Yoda and myself during his time of need. My family has been blessed with not only one of Gods angels but a lesson in compassion, undying affection and gratitude for all of Gods gifts both big and small - even in the shape of my little sausage link with the heart of a wookie. ~Sometimes it takes a village, and sometimes you just have to use The Force.~
