Mia

Beagle

Meet Mia

Mia is a sweet doll of a beagle we love very much. She was up for adoption by the local SPCA. Apparently her original owner had to move far away for work so Mia had to go live somewhere else. I'm sure that it was heartbreaking for them, as she is such a well behaved, smart, affectionate, playful, and beautiful little girl. Whoever you are, wherever you are, you did an amazing job. Thank you. Please don't worry about Mia. She's VERY loved and we'd never let anyone hurt her. Whoever took care of her for a while, said that Mia wasn't good with cats which is not true! It is our cat that needs the attitude adjustment! She'll walk by Mia while she's sleeping and hiss at her. Mia tries to ignore her but sometimes will bark at Lexie and chase her....more to show her that she's not going to take her bullying lying down....literally! When we met her, those cats she had lived with must have had fleas, as she was being treated for an extremely bad allergic reaction and infection from all the flea bites all over her backside and her tail -which had barely any fur left poor girl. She was on the skinny side (which resulted in her being a little too spoiled with treats for a while so she & I on a mission to lose our winter pudge), and was recovering from her surgery so she wouldn't be able to make puppies (vet couldn't say for sure if she had ever had a litter but she would have had cute puppies). My boys & I hadn't really planned on adopting a dog that soon but had tossed the idea around. I am so happy that we happened to go into the SPCA that day to look into adoption, and that Mia stole our hearts! I haven't had a dog since I was 5 so I had no idea how to properly walk or give commandments to a dog in this day of many of them being "educated, but Mia was patient with me as we went for a stroll outside. It was love at first sight for me and against the advice of everyone except my boys' grandfather who sang their praises as they accompanied him on his rabbit hunting trips and he has belonged to the Beagle Club. Mia may have needed a new home and family to take care of her; however, I tell her and everyone all the time that me and my sons actually needed her even more! We have gone through some really rough times over the years, and are still trying to get through them. Mia has been helping our family through everything from issues at school and work linked to stigma and discrimination surrounding mental health and learning disorders, the dignity and privacy lost while jumping hoops to gain access to disability insurance coverage, the damage and disorder from water overflow and damage to our home on three levels, financial strain from being a single parent, feeling the effects like many from cuts to education and healthcare, and additional and ongoing stress of impending job cuts for many of us employed by our current leader. Mia saved our lives, gave us hope, made us smile- laugh, got us all out walking and going to the dog park as a family, and gave us a lot of snuggles at a time when we needed it the most. Mia still takes care of us this way and I can't imagine life without her ever. She's spoiled, cherished, cuddled, walked, and talked to every day...all day...and I wouldn't have it any other way. Again, she's saved our live.
