Meet Chelsea

Chelsea's story is a sad one with a happy ending. She came from Virginia where she went from foster home, to kennels, and back to foster homes. Because at that time she had a little problem with "submissive urination" (where she would piddle a small drop or two if she became excited), everyone brought her back. Eventually, she was scheduled to be euthanized, and on the very day of her planned euthanasia, a group from a New Jersey "no-kill" shelter went down to Virginia and picked up 7 dogs that were scheduled for that day. She was saved, but here in NJ she dealt with the same problem. There seemed to be no hope. However, after my beloved dog of 12 years died, I inquired about her at an adoption site. When the foster mom brought her to my house she was reluctant because I had an apartment and not a "home". But when my son came home and began to play with her, she piddled a little, and I immediately told the foster mom it was NOT a big deal. I believe she was sold on me because of that. Now, 8 years later, my little girl Chelsea is a huge part of my life. I love her to death. She is an interesting character and not the most trusting dog in the world of strangers (who can blame her after all she went through!), but I allow her to be who she is! As far as her submissive urination, it just took time to work with her and to remind people not to come on too strong when they enter my home and let her come to them. By doing this, she does not get over excited and she rarely ever does it any longer. With trust, love, and patience she has a wonderful home, and I have my little girl!
