Dog Trust Charity Urges Government To Restrict Firework Usage
Fireworks can be very distressing for dogs. Dog owners take great care to keep their dogs away from these stressful environments, but one UK charity is doing more. Dog Trust charity is urging Members of Parliament to implement fireworks restrictions, both in terms of usage and sales. They want to see the use fireworks limited to certain holidays throughout the year: Bonfire night, New Years Eve, Diwali, and Chinese New Year. They would also like to see the sale of fireworks limited to licensed, public occasions at certain times of the year.
The current regulations allow the general public to set off fireworks anytime between 7am and 11pm, on private land but these times are extended on holidays to midnight or 1am. With Dog Trust's suggested restrictions dog owners would no longer have to worry about stumbling upon a random firework display that could frighten their pet. Dog Trust also offers resources for dog owners to prepare their dogs for fireworks (and other distressing, loud noises). For more information head to their website, here.
