Yes, I’ve done it again
To be completely honest, it’s been a rough couple of months for me and my dogs. First, after over two years as a foster in our home, Chanceย left us and returned to SAINTS due to his declining health. Following that heartbreak, we decided to foster another dogย who we quickly fell in love with; however he ended up having dog aggression issues which resulted in Cash getting hurt. This was the ultimate blow, as I felt incredibly guilty and responsible for letting something bad happen to my sweet boy, while at the same time losingย the wonderful foster dog we had already become so attached to. Suffice it to say, the dogs and I really needed something to lift our spirits.
Enter Mr. Giggles, the sweet and fluffy kitten who resides with my cousin and herย super adorableย pit bull, Jaeda (one of Cash’s many girlfriends). You see, Mr. Giggles and Jaeda are best friends. They eat, sleep, play and snuggle together all day long. This special relationship led me to comment to my cousin that perhaps Cash could use a kitten pal to cheer him up and give him someone to nurture (completely kidding, of course). That’s when my cousin fatefully advised me that Mr. Giggles’ parents just had a new litter of kittens who would be looking for their forever homes shortly. Oh boy.
Following several back-and-forths with my cousin and many, many photos, Jer and I decided to stop by to meet the kittens, just for fun. That’s when we first saw him, the chubby, melon-headed male who stood out from the rest of his siblings as the only black cat in a litter of stripey grey females.
He was the only one that didn’t hiss at me when I reached into the box. I am generally not a cat lover, so this immediately endeared him to me. After spending some time with him and his siblings, it became clear that he was mellow, cuddly and was not afraid of dogs. Jer thought I was crazy, but I felt certain that this fluffy little kitten was exactly what we needed to cheer everyone up and to give Cash a special friend to care for. So we’ve decided to take him.
Meet Blackie Chan, my first kitten. He’s only 6 weeks old right now, so he won’t be coming to live with us until Nov 2nd. So mark it on your calendar folks, we’ll be a canine/feline inclusive household! What have I gotten myself into?
