Alright fellow dog lovers. It's that time of year once again! If you're in the Toronto area (or if you feel like a road trip with a super fun end destination) head to the St. Lawrence Market neighbourhood this weekend for one of the best dog parties under the sun. Spanning two days - June 9th & 10th - Woofstock features dogs and dog stuff galore. Vendors, speed dating, contests, wiener dog races, you name it.

Being a face for Modern Dog magazine,  my Wirehaired Dachshund Penny should really be looking perfectly groomed at all times; however that seldom happens especially with our busy schedules and all. As a matter of fact, my mop of a dog is currently looking more like a Bichon/Poodle/ShihTzu mix rather than the breed she actually is. So I consulted with our mobile grooming friends at

My previous dog Kaya, an energetic Weimaraner/Pointer cross, had an insatiable appetite for exercise. Therefore I'd often take her into Pacific Spirit Park, a magical forested woodland with myriad trails upon which my unleashed dog could run, her long gangly legs zig-zagging back and forth along the pathway, nose to the ground, surprising unsuspecting squirrels and other wild creatures. It was a great way to spend some time together, she'd get the stimulation and exercise she needed and I'd

As the memorial day weekend draws near, our thoughts turn to the men and women who serve in the military to protect and preserve the freedoms we so often take for granted. Often forgotten are the dogs who serve alongside them. They assist troops with their keen visual and olfactory senses, sniffing out hidden bombs and detecting menacing forces, oftentimes saving lives and providing invaluble moral support.

My dog Penny got to spend this past weekend at one of her favorite spots on earth,  Salt Spring Island. The forested area around the house there is home to all sorts of creatures with new and exciting smells that entice my little dog off on one trail or another, tail a-wagging, trying to seek out the creature that left the enticing scent. It gives her hours of stimulation and exercise and is a whole different scene from our city life. We both benefit from this change of pace, mentally as

Can you believe it? We're almost 10!

With the summer  issue wrapped, we're already busily working on Modern Dog's fall issue, a very special edition for me

I’m thrilled to announce that our summer issue is now on its way to subscribers and newsstands. Earlier this year, at the Westminster Dog Show, I got to chat with Martha Stewart for a few minutes after her dog, Genghis Khan, won Best of Breed (see previous blog for photo) which led to the two of them being on our

Flowers, Sunday brunch, heart-shaped balloons and dogs bearing gifts... what could be better?!

I knew Mother's Day weekend was starting off right when I received a special Mother’s Day e-card compliments of my dog Penny (see previous blog). Then leaving work early on Friday (see it’s already getting even better!), my sisters, my dog Penny and I flew to visit my mom for the weekend where we celebrated Mother’s Day with loads of great food (not to mention loads of good

I didn't know my dog was so talented... not only was she able to use a computer to send me an e-card for Mother's Day, she's also an aspiring poet. Check it out above, then send your own e-card to a dog-mom you know. It's free (and fun!).
