Prevent This Tragedy

Summer temps + dogs in cars = danger!

With summer quickly approaching, we're all for a reminder that hot cars and pets don’t mix. The Ontario SPCA's No Hot Pets campaign aims to bring awareness surrounding the dangers of leaving pets in vehicles. Temperatures inside cars can climb precipitously and since dogs don’t have the ability to sweat, they can only withstand a hot environment for a very short period of time. A body temperature increase of just two degrees Celsius can result in irreparable brain damage within minutes.

The society receives hundreds of reports of pets being left in hot cars every year, so they’re encouraging people to share posters and leaflets (available at nohotpets.ca) about the dangers of leaving their pets in the car. Visit their facebook page (facebook.com/ontariospca) to take the pledge not to leave pets in vehicles; they're sending out No Hot Pets window decals to those who do so you can help spread the word!
