Modern Dog editor and writer Marian Buechert is polishing up her high notes to help out dogs at a low point in their lives. A Better Life Dog Rescue and Sheriff’s Rescue, two organizations that match up unwanted dogs with new forever homes, are holding a gala fundraiser night on May 7 in Burnaby, BC, and Buechert will be providing the live musical entertainment.
Buechert and her partner, Steve Britten, make up the duo Soft Focus, which has been delighting audiences around Vancouver for 10 years. They will be performing well-loved tunes from their recent CD, Favourite Things, as well as many other classics, from Broadway to sixties folk.
"One of our signature songs is ‘Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?’ from the show My Fair Lady, and I’d like to say, wouldn’t it be loverly if all dogs everywhere had wonderful homes and people to love them?" says Buechert.
The evening will also include a dinner, silent auction, door prizes, and other entertainment.
