Homemade Ice Cream for Dogs by Chef Gemma Stafford, Bigger Bolder Baking

Ice Cream Day

Chef Gemma Stafford's Homemade Ice Cream recipe videos on her Bigger Bolder Baking show have been viewed more than 20 million times but why should humans have all the fun? While you cool down this summer, don't forget your best friend! Now you can make Ice Cream for your pets with Gemma's simple dog-friendly recipe.

Gemma's new Homemade Ice Cream for Dogs video recipe features her very-own dog, Waffles, as a co-host. Waffles is a Wheaton Terrier/Lhasa Apso mix, who Gemma and her husband Kevin adopted from a shelter in Los Angeles called NKLA more than two years ago. Waffles, like many terriers, is full of beans and he's definitely got a personality to match. Waffles insisted he'd be the perfect co-host for this episode and he did not disappoint.

Making doggie ice cream is really easy! It's all based on plain yogurt and fresh ingredients that are good for dogs like bananas, strawberries and peanut butter. Every dog is different so you know what is good for yours and how much they should enjoy. And each Ice Cream lasts up to 8 weeks in the freezer so your furry friends can eat them for a long time. Gemma created three unique flavors of Ice Cream for Dogs including this Peanut Butter & Jelly flavor below:

Peanut Butter & Jelly Homemade Ice Cream for Dogs

1 small, ripe banana

½ cup (4oz/120g) peanut butter (unsalted and smooth)

1 cups (10oz/280g) natural plain yogurt ( low fat, non fat)

10 strawberries, pureed

1. Mash the banana well with a fork until smooth and no lumps. Stir in the peanut butter, followed by the yogurt.

2. Mix all ingredients until well-combined.

3. Puree the strawberries (or mash them with a potatoes masher) and fold them into the peanut butter mix to create a swirl.

4. Pour the mixture into freezer safe air-tight containers and then freeze for a minimum of 4 hours but preferably overnight.

5. Keep the Ice Cream in the freezer for 8 weeks.
