Meet Quincy
Hi! My name is Quincy. Here is my story: As a puppy, I was bought by a family from a puppymill/backkyard breeder, who was not familiar with the my breed. I was a cute puppy, but soon enough, grew very quick into a big boy. At that point the family decided they didn't want me anymore and dumped me at the shelter :( I was placed for a few weeks in an animal shelter in South Carolina. I was really scared there and didn't get to snuggle up next to anyone anymore. I no longer could aim to please, because there were so many dogs there trying to get attention. This made me very sad and very depressed. I really couldn't eat, I contracted kennel cough and even worms (EEEW!). I was at the kennel for a few weeks and was soon to be transported to Washington DC due to overcrowding of the shelter. My now Mommy, Kandice, and Daddy, Tom had put in an application at Lucky Dog Rescue for a small little female Saint Bernard named Heidi. The adoption coordinator call them back to tell them good & bad news. Heidi had been adopted- BUT- they had a 7 1/2 month old Saint Bernard named Brutus that we should consider. They told my Mommy that I was patient, laid back, well mannered and really looking for my forever home. My Mommy got really excited! The adoption coordinator send over some pictures of me playing with kids & with small dogs! 4 Days later, our adoption went through and I was soon to meet the family that I would spend FUREVER WITH. It was a hot, muggy, rainy day when I was transported with 4 other saints and 40 other dogs from South Carolina to Washington D.C. Due to the weather, we were 2 hours late to arrive to the transport site. Although it was uncomfortable- I knew that my mommy would be waiting there for me. She was so excited that she got to Washington D.C. 3 hours early- and now with the 2 hour back up she had to kill some time. Her and my grandpa walked around D.C. trying to come up with names for me! How exciting is this? Once I arrived at the transport center- I had to wait patiently. I was so big compared to all of the other dogs and was all the way at the bottom. When they called my name "Brutus" my mommy came over, started crying and kissed me all over my face. All the other pups were barking and crazy- but not me. I knew I was home when I met my Mommy. Once I did my business and ate some treats- I had to get back in the car (at least it was just me and mommy and pop pop) and drive 3 hours back to Philadelphia! We stopped two times on the way home- so I wouldn't get to car sick! Once I got home- I got to meet my Daddy. He was so surprised at how big I was already! Mommy & Daddy thought I smelled POOTINKY- so they hosed me down and gave a yard bath. I was not to happy with this- but I let them do it. What the heck??!!?? As I dried off and ran around my new yard (mommy and daddy specifically bought me a yard-wow!) I got to meet my demanding sister, Tootsie and my prissy brother, Benjamin. Awww-- they aren't so bad- who I love more then anything! I had to go to the vet because I had a terrible case of hook worms & kennel cough. I also was running a 104 degree fever and was covered in matts and flea bites (ick!). Mom took care of all of it and patiently laid by my side as I was nursed back to health. As I regain my health and my strength I know that my Mommy & my Daddy will help me live the best life possible. The rest is HISTORY! New Life- New Name- QUINCY BROSS. Mommy calls me Quincers though :) I am not a certified therapy dog through PALS for LIFE. I go to visit with children, the elderly and the mentally challenged to help bring a new sense of calm to their life. I absolutely LOVE it and enjoy being a working therapy dog every day. I also love it when we foster dogs and I can help them feel more relaxed as they wait for their forever families. Mom said her life has changed because of me- awww shucks. My life has also changed because of her! Woof woof! Love- Quincy http://kouturek.blogspot.com/
