Meet Peanut
My wife and I fostered Peanut, her two brothers, and of course the momma from the Humane Society in Montgomery. They were found a box next to the highway, the puppies only a week or two old, and obviously in very poor condition. Flo, the momma, kept her babies alive in that box, all the way to the point where she was too weak to move when she was found. Thankfully, someone happened upon the whole cruel scene, took them to the Humane Society, and all four of them were a part of our family for several months. They all went to great homes through the Humane Society's spectacular volunteers and staff. A friend of ours, an older lady who lives alone, had recently lost her dog of 15-years while Flo was still with us, looking for a permanent home. My wife and I listened to her swear on everything from bibles to her mother's grave that she would never find that level of love and kinship again. Our friend came over one night and met poor little Flo, heard Flo's story, and told us she wouldn't mind the company for one night, but that she "absolutely wasn't going to adopt her". Those two are now absolutely inseparable. Flo goes everywhere with Linda, who proudly proclaims that Flo is the "Belle of the ball" at the dog park - which they visit every single day, even in the rain. We named her Flo, because when we got her, she looked pathetic, she was wise beyond her years, and had the demeanor of an older woman who's been running double shifts her whole life at a busy diner.
