Meet Gordon
This is Gordon, a rescue. Four years ago he had been used as a bait dog and came to me severely underweight, covered in war wounds and harboring a general mistrust. He had been dumped during the middle of winter in the Northeast end of Edmonton. For two weeks calls came in to the City Pound about a loose dog roaming the streets in the -25 degree weather. How he survived beats me given his short coat and the lack of body fat! The City finally captured him and he received extensive medical treatment; he was dehydrated, malnourished, had several open, infected wounds and a choke collar that was so tight it had to be cut off. He was deemed ‘unadoptable’ by the SPCA but went to a rescue organization (Safe Haven) for fostering. About a month after he entered care, I adopted him. At first I was overwhelmed…he was still so thin, completely rambunctious and had extreme social issues and separation anxiety. With the help of a number of trainers I was able to teach him some manners and eventually bring him home a little brother; a Pekingese named Wally whom he loves very much. Gordon is fiercely protective, loyal and has a great sense of humor. I took this picture shortly after I was in a car accident and had very limited mobility. Gord was very concerned, as you can see from the expression on his face.
