Meet Chance
When Chance was 5 months old, we were in a very bad car accident. He was ejected out the window. When I woke up the first thing I did was start looking for Chance in the truck. When I noticed he was not there, I jumped out of the truck and started looking under the vehicle thinking that maybe he had been run over. After I checked, I began to really panic and started running up and down the highway screaming “My Baby, My Baby.” People began to think that I had a child in the car and was looking for it along the side of the road in the weeds. All I could think at this time was that my puppy was lying somewhere suffering and I had no Idea what kind of shape he was in. Time went by and finally the ambulance showed up at the scene of the accident. They were putting me on the stretcher when my father showed up. He had no idea that this had happened to me. He was driving by and saw my truck all smashed up., and pulled over to see if it was me. I will never forget the look on his face when he saw me. The only thing I could say to him was “Daddy please find my dog.” As the ambulance took me away my father called all of our family and friends to come out and search for Chance. They even called the family Vet and she came out with here search and rescue dogs to try and sniff Chance out of the woods. Later that night I was released from the Hospital, and they had given me some meds to relax me. When I got home, my mother made me lay down in my bed. It was about 11:30 at night when they finally called off the search for Chance. I could hear my father out in the kitchen talking to my Husband; he was very upset and felt like he had failed. Before my grandmother left that night she told me to leave the front gate open, because she had talked to my grandfather up in Heaven and told him that he better bring my dog home safe or she would never put flowers on his grave ever again. So that night I left the front gate open. I had finally fell a sleep and for some reason around 4:45am I had woke up and went to open up my kitchen door to see if Chance had found his way home. It was a blessing, there was Chance sitting at the door so happy to see me. He came flying in the house jumped up on me and started kissing me all over. Then he went running to the bed room where my husband was fast a sleep and jumped up onto the bed, for the first time ever and started kissing my husband all over. Chance was just a small little puppy and could never jump that high on to the bed. We would always have to pick him up and set him on the bed. That day he was so happy to be home that he finally did it himself. I was so happy that I called my parents crying telling them “He came home, He came home.” Everyone was so happy we were all crying. That morning I took Chance to the Vet to get checked out and to make sure he was ok. All he had was some scratches and whiplash. Chance will always have a special place in my Heart. He is a very intelligent dog.
