Meet Bonnie
Misty is our Cocker Spaniel, she is nearly ten years old. She is loving and faithful and we all love her dearly. Bonnie came into our lives some nine years ago, she is a Golden Retriever. She became my lifelong friend as I have become unwell in recent years. She has always comforted me, and knows when I am sad and unwell. Bonnie and Misty became inseparable the moment we bought Bonnie home. They walk together; sleep together, usually Misty across Bonnie’s back. Recently we were in Norfolk on holiday and we always take them with us. It was a lovely day so we decided to take them for a walk by the sea. Bonnie loves swimming in the sea, whereas Misty, being not very well, tended to run along the sand. Bonnie was swimming in and out, while Misty chased birds along the beach. I knew the sea was particularly cold as Bonnie did not swim out very far. Suddenly we lost sight of Misty and realised she had chased after the birds straight out into the sea. We called and called her, but she had lost her bearings and was swimming further out. Bonnie ran over to us and realising we were calling Misty, she charged in and swam over to Misty, then amazingly she swam past her in such a way as to make Misty turn around back towards the shore. She then swam back, slightly behind Misty, to make sure she kept going. If it had not been for Bonnie’s quick thinking, I’m sure Misty would not be with us today. When they got back to the beach, Misty was in shock and just laid there while Bonnie lay with her. Thankfully Misty has now made a complete recovery, and I feel Bonnie deserves some recognition for her act of bravery.
