How far will pet owners go to keep Fido and Fluffy happy? It seems the sky's the limit these days (or the confines of their wallets) — with spas, raw foods and other perks once only available to humans. The role they play in our households is indeed changing. No longer are pets — particularly dogs and cats — viewed by their owners only as companions, guardians or hunters. "They're perceived more as a member of the family," said Susan Dankert, spokesperson for the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council of Canada, a nonprofit trade association. "The human-animal bond has become so important for people."
