The Oregon Humane Society, founded in 1868, remains one of the oldest humane societies in the U.S. They enforce no time limit on shelter stays and adopt out thousands of animals per year. They also provide quality medical care for strays. Their operation relies completely on the generosity of their supporters.

Based in Phuket, Thailand, the Soi Dog Foundation helps street dogs and cats who have been abandoned and abused. Part of their mission involves spaying and neutering stray dogs, conducting mobile clinics around the Bangkok area, vaccinating, and providing veterinary care with over a dozen full-time veterinarians.
