By Josey Kitson – Executive Director Canada World Animal Protection
Losing my beloved companion is the hardest thing I’ve faced in the past few years. I adopted Frankie as a senior – he was 12 years old, had two teeth left, blurred vision and a terrible reoccurring sinus infection. He was scruffy and messy and I fell in love instantly.
I had less than 2 short years with my little man – but they were the best years for the both of us. Eventually his eye sight went completely, he lost his last two teeth and dementia set in. He slept longer and longer.
It’s been over a year and I think about him all the time. I think about all of the pets I’ve lost. Frankie’s final moments were spent the same way our time together began – just the two of us, him staring back at me, me thinking that my life will be forever changed.
The loss of a pet is felt as strongly as any member of the family. Frankie meant so much to me. So, in his honour and to keep his memory alive I gave a better life to another dog through World Animal Protection’s World Animal Gifts.
I did the same for my friends and family when their beloved companions passed. My gift was accompanied by an uplifting eCard letting them know I honoured their pet and the bond they shared. It's a memorable and meaningful way to celebrate a wonderful life, while doing a world of good for dogs who need our help.
