Aloft Tallahassee Downtown Celebrates Launch of Local Foster Dog Program with Leon County Humane Society
Aloft Tallahassee Downtown is pleased to announce that it has launched a foster dog program with local partner Leon County Humane Society (LCHS). Through the new program, Aloft will work with LCHS to foster dogs in need of a forever home, housing one dog at a time who can be adopted by hotel guests and visitors.
“We are excited to work with LCHS to launch a wonderful new program that will help more dogs in Tallahassee find their forever homes,” said Carrie Duncan, general manager of Aloft Tallahassee Downtown. “The program is modeled after two very successful programs at our sister properties in Asheville, NC and Greenville, SC. Along with our parent company, McKibbon Hospitality, we are pleased to add this program in Tallahassee and look forward to the contributions we will be able to make within the community as a result.”
LCHS is dedicated to matching families with homeless pets and educating the community about responsible pet ownership and the importance of spaying and neutering pets. All of LCHS’ pets are housed in foster homes, and each one is carefully matched with its adopter. "Our new foster partnership with Aloft perfectly aligns with our mission to Rescue, Rehabilitate and Educate, thereby fostering a kinder community for people and their pets,” said Lisa Glunt, executive director of LCHS. "The new program is an exciting development for our organization and opens the door for us to match more adopters with homeless pets in Tallahassee while continuing to save more lives."
Through the program, each adoptable dog will enjoy a new dog house in the Aloft lobby, which is a custom-built replica of the hotel constructed by OliverSperry Renovation made possible by generous donations from Darcie Morningstar and Tyler Huston. LCHS will be providing dog food, a harness and leash, and all medical care for the dogs during their stay at Aloft. The dog house will be situated in front of a new custom hand-painted mural called TallyProud. The mural was painted by Aloft team member Kara Byrd and includes iconic images of Florida State University, Florida A&M University, the Capitol, The Tallahassee Museum and a map of the City of Tallahassee. Partial funding for the mural was provided by The Tallahassee Museum.
The Aloft Tallahassee program follows the great success of similar programs at Aloft Asheville Downtown and Aloft Greenville Downtown, which together have found forever homes for more than 100 dogs to date. The inaugural program in Asheville has been featured in leading media outlets such as People, O Magazine, Condé Nast, The Huffington Post, and on the NBC Nightly News and The Meredith Vieira Show. All three hotels are operated by McKibbon Hospitality, a leading hotel development and management group committed to providing unique guest experiences while making a difference in the local communities it serves.
