Stanley Coren –ย Dr. Stanley Coren is a psychologist best known to the public for his popular books on dogs and on general human psychology. His engaging writing style and broad knowledge of the behaviour of both dogs and people have made bestsellers of his books The Intelligence of Dogs, Why We Love the Dogs We Do, The Pawprints of History and How Dogs Think. He has appeared on numerous TV programs, including The Oprah Winfrey Show, Larry King Live, Dateline, 20/20, Good Morning America and The Today Show.
Corey Vanโt Haaff – Corey Vanโt Haaff is a journalist with special interest in animal welfare. She writes extensively about dogs, especially the canine-human bond and dog rescue and rehabilitation. Obviously a dog fanatic, Corey cannot pass by a pup without greeting it. She considers herself blessed to live in a house full of dogs who are each very special in their own way. Rose Frosek – Rose Frosek’s ultimate (or would that be ultimutt?) assignment is writing for Modern Dog magazine. She is a champion of the underdog and the written word and has a penchant for rescue, Dachshunds, design, DIYS, and lists of all stripe and type.
Mary-Jo Dionne – Writer Mary Jo Dionne has worked as an advertising copywriter on North Americaโs biggest brands, picking up her fair share of awards along the way. A finalist for Vancouverโs Funniest New Female Comedian and Vancouverโs Funniest Person with a Day Job, Mary-Jo has heard her writing described as โa masterpiece of urban satire that will have you laughing so hard youโll glow.โ On the not-so-funny side, her article โPuppy Hell: A puppy mill exposรฉโ garnered her the 2007 Maxwell Award for Best Feature Article.
Jess Golden – Jess Golden illustrates from her humble abode just outside Boston, Massachusetts, where she has lived since graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2003. A strong connection to her canine companions over the years has provided Jess with endless inspiration for her art. Jess and her husband, Jordan, are both animal lover and dog fanatics. Steve Duno – Author and pet behaviorist Steve Duno has trained thousands of pets and their owners. His books address a wide variety of topics, including breed-specific behavior, environmental enrichment, basic obedience training, trick training, behaviour modification, and nutrition. Steveโs new memoir, Last Dog On The Hill (St. Martinโs, 2010), tells the story of Lou, his legendary, heroic dog who assisted him in rehabilitating many last-chance dogs with aggression problems. A former school teacher, Steve lives in Seattle, WA, with his family, his ditzy Shepherd-mix Flavio, and Rico, his mixed-breed tornado.
Tanya King – Tanya King has been passionately photographing dogs for the last seven years, in both her previous photography-life with the Dog & Hydrant, and now as Tanya King Photography. Her main goal is to have fun with what she is doing, and photographing dogs is what does it for her, especially photographing homeless ones for groups like HugaBull, Cross Your Paws Rescue, and the Vancouver Animal Shelter. She is taking it easy with her dog, Daisy, loving life, and driving around in her new Fiat!
Jen Reeder – Jen Reederโs first job writing about animals was for World Wildlife Fund in 1994. Since then, her focus has shifted from endangered species to manโs best friend. She writes frequently about dogs for Modern Dog magazine, as well as the various publications of the American Animal Hospital Association, as well as general interest publications like The Dallas Morning News. Her rescued lab mix, Rio, provides plenty of story ideas. A member of the Dog Writers Association of America, she loves Modern Dog and the magazineโs passion for rescue.
Kim Smith – Kim Smith is an illustrator from Calgary, Alberta. She grew up drawing, but never really considered a career as an artist until high school, when she was forced to choose between her two loves, science and art. Lucky for us, art won out. She graduated from the Alberta College of Art and Design with a Bachelor of Design in character design. Her passion is narrative illustration for magazines, childrenโs books, and comics.
Jennifer Messer – Jennifer Messer is a veterinarian, writer, and dog trainer. Jenniferโs love affair with canine behaviour began during her studies at McGill University, where she completed a BA with honours in psychology. She went on to study veterinary medicine, graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2001. During her studies, Jennifer founded the first puppy school in Ontario. The publication of her innovative program The Kinderpuppy Course established her as a leader in curriculum development for puppies. Jennifer is owned by her pit bull terrier, Charlotte, and her beagle, Mr. F. Bender.
Colleen Safford – Colleen is the host of The Family Pet on Pet Life Radio, and has been voted โBest of NYโ by New York Magazine for her New York-based services NY Walk & Train and Far Fetched Acres. As mother to toddler children and a Boxer-mix, she is particularly interested in raising awareness on dog-child safety.
Inger Martens – Inger has twenty-plus years of training Hollywoodโs A list and their pups. Her BA in Mass Communications and Human Psychology helped her create unique training tips for dog guardians, which she now shares with us. She is an author, television and radio personality, and was dubbed โBest Dog Trainer in L.A.โ by Los Angeles Magazine. Inger is currently excited to announce her multimedia online resource for dog owners, pawsforaminute.com.

Teoti Anderson – Teoti Anderson, CPDT, owns Pawsitive Results (getpawsitiveresults.com), and is the past president of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers. She is the author of Your Outta Control Puppy, Super Simple Guide to Housetraining, Quick and Easy Crate Training, and Puppy Care and Training.
Kelly Caldwell – Kelly Caldwell is a writer and photographer who canโt imagine life without dogs. A Guelph, Ontario native, Kelly has shared more than a third of her life with her Basenji, Jazz and most recently welcomed a Boston Terrier named Dottie into the fold. Kellyโs words and images have been featured in a number of publications and she has been honoured with a Maxwell Award from the Dog Writers Association of America in recognition of her dog photography.
Kharen Hill – Kharen is an internationally known entertainment photographer who splits her time between Los Angeles and Vancouver. She has photographed celebrities from Sarah McLachlan, Clint Eastwood, and KISS, to Michael J. Fox and Kim Cattrall. She works with many major motion picture studios and television networks, as well as working on national and international advertising campaigns. Marian Buechert – Marian Buechert has been a professional writer and non-fiction editor for over 20 years and a dog lover her entire life. She sold her first dog-related article to Dogs in Canada magazine in 1986 and her work has appeared in The AKC Gazette, Dog Fancy, and The Kennel Gazette. With her dogs, she has been involved with conformation shows, obedience, agility, lure coursing, tracking, and musical freestyle. She says that researching and writing the breed profiles for each issue of Modern Dog is an exciting challenge that helps her add to her already-considerable store of dog trivia facts. Her non-dog activities focus around singing (her duo, Soft Focus, has released a CD titled Tunes in a Paper Bag) and photography. Marian lives on the west coast with her four wonderful guys: her husband, Mark, and son, Bryn, plus Durrant, a Labrador, and Tucker, a Curly-Coated Retriever.
