Can sugar come out to play?

She's saving lives, one book at a time. Author, life-long dog owner, and animal lover Marla Stahl has a unique way of assisting with animal rescue: In addition to adopting rescue dogs of her own, she donates a portion of her proceeds from her children's book, Can Sugar Come Out to Play?, to various animal rescue organizations. Each month she features a different organization, and donates $2 from each book sold during the month to that group. She does book readings and book signing sessions at pet supply stores and schools, and attends pet-related events near her home to support local rescue organizations, donating a portion of the proceeds from that day to the group she is supporting. Ms. Stahl has donated proceeds to animal rescue organizations in Maryland, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., Texas, and Puerto Rico. Last year she supported 14 animal rescues. Additionally, she donated proceeds to Baltimore’s Cool Kids Campaign, which assists children with cancer and their families, and a special fund set up in her hometown that provides emergency financial assistance to senior citizens and people with disabilities.

Can Sugar Come Out to Play? is a “mostly true” heartwarming story about Ms. Stahl’s rescue dog. It promotes the concepts of animal rescue, lifetime commitment to our pets, friendship, sharing, and unconditional love–all great values to reinforce in our children.
