So if you think you've got what it takes to create the winning entry, go to

Canada's Senator Mac Harb recently tabled a bill to end Canada's commercial seal hunt, a dying industry based on the demand for fur for luxury items. Making history by introducing legislation in the Senate to amend The Fisheries Act (while respecting treating obligations and protecting the rights of Canada's aboriginal people), he says it's time to transition Canadian sealers into sustainable industries befitting a modern country in the 21st century. There aren't many of us who

According to a press release issued today by the ASPCA it's unlikely that "Swine Flu" will infect our dogs and cats as to date only humans have been affected by the new A/H1N1 virus. However, they recommend that owners of pet pigs, as well as farmers, should monitor their animals' health more closely during this outbreak.

Our dogs give us the gift of daily walks providing us not only the opportunity to spend some fun and relaxing playtime outdoors with them, but also a chance to commune with nature and connect with Mother Earth. Mona Campbell , a Canadian businesswoman and tireless advocate for animals, departed this world last May but will live on in the memories of animal lovers for years to come as a result of her donation to the Ontario Veterinary College. She donated $7.5 million dollars (the University's largest-ever single donation) of which half will be used for animal welfare programs while the other half for a cancer centre (Canada's first). On behalf of the animals, thank you Mona Campbell

Kaya enjoyed a "wild" time this Easter weekend when she visited our home in the country.  Although I've been feeling a bit depressed about my aging dog's ability to get around and enjoy life the way she used to (she sometimes falls down and needs help getting up again, she's becoming incontinent and is also losing her hearing and eyesight), my spirits got a lift when she surprised me by regaining, albeit temporarily, a youthful surge of energy. She spotted a rabbit in the garden and with
