Winter Travelling
With the Holidays just around the corner, I'm looking forward to spending some time with my family, catching up and reminiscing Christmases past (and undoubtedly eating and drinking more than I ought to). With snowy mountain passes and unpredictable weather to combat on the five-hour drive to get there, considerable forethought and preparation goes into packing up the vehicle, especially as we'll be travelling with our three dogs. We're bringing along essentials like a first aid kit (check out how to make your own pet first aid kit here), flashlight, candles and blankets. Then there's the requisite food, water and bowls, grooming supplies, leash, poop bags, etc. etc. It's difficult to keep it all organized, that's why I really like Solvit's HomeAway Travel Organizer... essentials like collapsible food bowls, water container, food bag come with it and all your miscellaneous gear is easily stowed away in the heavy-duty, multi-pocketed organizer bag. With it, I have everything I need at my finger tips. I also throw a Popware For Pets travel cup into the side pocket of the door for convenient dispensing of water to thirsty dogs en route.
Another useful product we'll be bringing along is the Stay Clean Travel Kit for Dogs. It's made by our friends at Sleepypod and comes with travel size bottles of All-Purpose Cleaner, Stain and Odor Remover, Dog Urine Odor Remover, Shampoo and Condition and Dishwasing Liquid. They're free of volatile organic compounds, hypoallergenic, biodegradable, non-toxic, PH balanced and (importantly) cruelty-free tested. We give them two thumbs up, and so will my mom when Rose undoubtedly pees on the carpet (again!). You can check out other travel safety tips at pettraveltexperts.com.
No matter where your own holiday plans take you, all of us at Modern Dog wish you a safe, warm and memorable Christmas and an awesome, happy and healthy New Year!
