Race day dawned bright and sunny. Esther Louisa Rose seemed in fine form – frisky and ready to show those other Doxies just what they were up against (see previous Wiener Race blog above). However, the Powers That Be had other plans for our little Esther. The deeply rutted track, distractingly-horsey-smelling starting gate, overzealous crowds of madly cheering fans and the blasting noise from the bell that signified the start of the race had our potential prize winner a trifle confused. Although she made a rapid exit from the starting gate, her speed ended there and a rather disoriented Esther was saved from any further bewilderment by being quickly scooped up in the arms of her loving guardian where she received plenty of hugs and kisses.  Although she failed to cross the finish line, she’s still a winner (or should I say wiener)  in our eyes, and in any event, there’s always next year…
