New Law Will Save Lives

New Law Will Save Lives
April 5, 2009 by Connie Wilson

So often the daily newspaper seems to report on anything but good news, but the other day I read something positive... B.C.'s Ministry of Environment will make it mandatory, starting in January 2011, for a bittering agent (denatonium benzoate) to be added to antifreeze and engine coolants thereby rendering the sweet taste of deadly toxic antifreeze quite the opposite... bad tasting (but still toxic). The offensive taste will make it less appealing to our pets (wildlife and children, too), and hopefully less likely that it will be consumed in quantities significant enough to cause harm. Every year, countless animals die of antifreeze poisoning. Here's to having this law passed worldwide!
