With many considering Memorial Day (celebrated
on the last Monday in May) to be the unofficial start of summer, the original purpose of the holiday–to remember and give thanks to the countless soldiers who’ve died
in combat protecting our freedom–is often forgotten in the festivites. This long weekend, let’s remember to take a moment to offer gratitude for these  brave men and women, as well as their canine companions, the dogs of war
who not only serve their country by acting as messengers, guards, soldiers, and
scouts but also provide a sense of belonging, friendship, and
family to our soldiers. I’ll be remembering and giving thanks to these dogs, too. You can see our tribute to them in the "Dogs of War" article on page 96 of the summer issue, on newsstands Tuesday.

Have a safe and fun Memorial
Day weekend!!
