Forget Facebook’s fake news and stream of updates on other people’s kids—we’re here for the pet pics!
With his paw-some new app called ZooPix, founder Will Reilly delivers a feel-good, animal-focused social media experience. Available for free through the app store, this fun app is all about the animals. Designed especially for pet people, ZooPix combines pet-focused social media, a rescue mission that helps adoptable animals find homes, animal-related services, and a pet show that will have you accumulating likes.
Essentially, it’s like a big pet park: create a profile for your pup (or cat, or reptile, or miniature pony…) and connect with other animal lovers. We especially love how every time someone likes your photos, an animal-sound plays to alert you—depending upon your pet, it could be a meow, bark or chirp. The weekly Pet Show is super fun, but be warned, competition is fierce. After all, whose pet doesn’t want to be a Zooperstar and win virtual trophies and ribbons?
ZooPix is also finding homes for pets in need by encouraging pet rescue and adoptions. Check out the “needs love” feature where shelters can join and showcase their available residents with the goal to find them loving forever homes. But again, be forewarned: this app is addictive! With a rating of 4.9 on the App Store, you know everyone’s having a good time.
Our love for our pets has reached epic heights—special pet taxi services in Mumbai, paid leave in Italy when your dog is sick, emotional support miniature horses in Canada—so it should come as no surprise that our four-legged and even two-legged furry friends have infiltrated our entertainment habits as well. According to a new survey released by Netflix, when it comes to watching TV, four out of five members have watched Netflix with their pet, and the majority (61%) find pets to be the best binge partner, beating out parents, romantic partners, friends, and kids.
Let’s face it—you and your S.O. might disagree on what to watch and your bestie might dare to stream an episode without you. Pets, on the other hand, are not only awesome cuddlers, they don’t hog the remote, they’ll never share spoilers, and they’re always down for one more episode! They make the perfect partners for the company, the cuddles (one in three have turned to their furry friends for comfort during a sad or scary scene) and even the conversation (22% have talked to their pet about the show or movie they were watching).
Though you should be warned that pet bingeing can also be ruff. Almost half of respondents (44%) have moved where they were sitting so their pet would be more comfortable, 16% have bribed them with treats to watch longer, and some (11%) have even gone so far as turning off a show because their pet didn't appear to like it. The snuggle is real.
Bird people appear to take watching Netflix with their pet to the next level. More than a quarter of bird owners have picked a show because they thought their pet would like it, as opposed to 17% of dog owners and 16% of cat owners. But it doesn’t stop there—35% of bird owners have a separate profile for watching Netflix with their pet, while only 18% of dog owners and 16% of cat owners can say the same. Now that’s dedication.

Sorry, I…
Okay, better. Hello. My name is Henry and I am a Welsh corgi. Please excuse my attempt at typing just now. I had ordered a dog-friendly keyboard which I was told would be easy to use, but setup proved to be a nightmare of cords and wires, and I don’t have any thumbs.
The dog-keyboard people are in for a withering Amazon review.
My name, again, is Henry, and I am simply delighted to make your acquaintance. I was lucky enough to be the subject recently of a new novel (based on my life) called Henry: The Queen’s Corgi. A friend suggested that I use some dog puns to try to sell it to you lovely people, along the lines of “A perfect gift fur the holidays!” I told this friend that these puns were beneath me. They’re beneath you, dear reader.
They’re beneath all of us.
What I can do is tell you what a fun read the book is. In it, my family takes me for a day trip to London, where I become separated from them at Buckingham Palace. Ordinarily this would be a scary occurrence for any dog, but as luck would have it, a certain occupant of Buckingham Palace is an owner and enthusiast of corgis. Before long, your humble guest blogger is swept into a royal retinue and given treatment straight out of The Prince and the Pupper.
I’m…I’m sorry. I said I wouldn’t pun and I just did. It won’t happen again.
Once ensconced in the palace, hijinks ensue and good times are had. Lessons are learned and morals imparted. To say that this is a perfect gift FOR (not fur) any dog lover during the holidays is an understatement. This is a book that you will curl up into your favorite chair with – hot chocolate in hand, favorite dog at your feet. The weather outside may get frightful, but you will most assuredly feel quite delightful.
I thank you for your time. As I sit here at my desk, staring out at the yard, I feel blessed to have lived this book, and hope that you enjoy it. I do believe that I see a squirrel, so I leave you now to go bark at it.

With a teething puppy in the house I know the importance of giving him something to chew on. The Tuggo is a weight-based tug-of-war toy that provides tension for dogs. The hollow plastic ball can be filled with water to increase the weight to 20 pounds, a great way to keep your canine friend entertained for hours while promoting exercise and building muscle. – CB
