Joe Biden’s Rescue Dog to Receive “Indoguration”

January 17th will see the first ever virtual “Indoguration” as Joe Biden’s rescue pooch, Major, is welcomed to the White House.

The Bidens rescued Major in 2018 from The Delaware Humane Association (DHA), who are hosting the informal event in order to celebrate Major’s notable Forever Home and to raise money for dogs in the shelter. DHA is hosting this pup party on Zoom, Sunday, January 13th at 3pm ET, and invites all dogs and their humans to attend by suggested donation of $10, all of which goes to the shelter, helping dogs in need. You can R.S.V.P. here!

Jill Martin from The Today Show plans to host the event with special guest Sir Darius Brown, the powerhouse teen entrepreneur and animal advocate. Brown creates and donates bowties to shelter dogs to supplement their cuteness and help their chances of adoption. They hope to draw 1000 attendees (both dogs and humans are welcome).

Prior to the party, guests can nominate their rescue dogs to be part of Major’s “Cabinet of Rescue Dogs” to be chosen by Brown.

In this deeply divided political moment, one thing most pet lovers can agree upon is excitement over the return of dogs to the White House. The Trumps were the First Family is more than 100 years to not have a pet.

Shelters are also hopeful that having a rescue dog in the White House will bring a boost to adoptions.

“This representation is not just normalizing adoptions, but celebrating it, because the public can see this is a really beautiful shepherd who is joining the White House,” Lindsay Hamrick, the director of shelter outreach and policy engagement at the Humane Society of the United States, recently told MarketWatch. “There are so many animals that are waiting for homes in shelters, so to be able to see one of them in the White House surrounded by tons of people, and having a really awesome life, sends a message that you can show up at your local shelter and find a healthy, happy dog to take home.”
