Open Farm is the first ethically raised and sourced dog food and was born from a gap in the market in sustainability and transparency. We are a family-run, Canadian based company rooted in the belief that the best ingredients are grown and raised by farmers who respect the land and the animals under their care.

Our recipes are prepared with 100% Certified Humane® meats, ocean caught fish and locally grown vegetables.  Our ‘Do Some Good’ concept means that pet parents can feed the best quality ingredients to their pets while making a positive impact for farm animals, family farms and the environment.

The meat and poultry used in Open Farm’s recipes come from farm animals that are fed a healthy vegetarian diet, free of antibiotics and growth hormones, and that live naturally with space, shelter and gentle handling. Co-founder Jacqueline Prehogan notes, “This translates into the kinder treatment of farm animals and a higher quality of meat used in our pet food.”

Our approach to the sourcing of our fish closely follows our meat sourcing practices. Our “Catch-of-the-Day” model is the first of its kind and uses exclusively ocean caught, seasonally sourced fish in collaboration with Ocean Wise™ and the Vancouver Aquarium. We do this to ensure exceptional quality while maintaining our commitment to aquatic animal welfare and the health of our oceans.

We’ve also launched a full-scale program to manage our environmental footprint. Among our initiatives are sustainable farming and fishing practices, local sourcing and we’ve launched the first nationwide bag-recycling program. Since over 95% of dog food bags are non-recyclable, we’ve partnered with TerraCyle to provide customers with a free and easy way to recycle their bags, converting them to brand new products instead of sending them to the landfill.
