Our friend and colleague Susan Kauffman just sent us this information regarding the plight of Nevada Mustangs. Please help if you can!

Nevada is blessed with a large wild horse population. Reno has these amazing animals roaming freely where they are seen on a daily basis. This sometimes causes problems, especially when the horses end up on roads and accidents occur.

Of course, it is the horses who are blamed, and sadly, the horses here have no protection from the laws governing BLM horses (ours are "managed" by the state, which has no budget and less will to do anything wild horse experts recommend to deal with the issue). What ends up happening is that the horses are rounded up, and if the local advocacy groups can't place them, they are sent to a slaughter auction in Fallon, NV.

There are several dozen horses that have thus far not found any placement and are in real danger of being sent to that auction, which will result in a lengthy and cruel transportation process before they are killed in either Canada (better, but not great) or Mexico (horrific…you really don't want to know how they kill horses down there).

SO…THESE HORSES NEED YOUR HELP!  If anyone can adopt even ONE, that is one less cruel, senseless death. If anyone has room for a bunch, even better!

If you are unable to adopt, the local rescue groups are also struggling to feed the horses they have managed to find placement for on a private ranch and could use donations. Please, please do what you can!

You can donate or inquire about adoption through this website: www.hiddenvalleyhorses.com, which is one of the local groups working tirelessly to help these horses.  I am also including their email from today below.

Please pass this along to any horse people you know, and ask them to do the same. If we get one horse saved, that is an accomplishment!
