There’s a lot to love about PBS’ new television series “Shelter Me.” For starters, it shares uplifting shelter stories to encourage prospective pet owners to adopt their new best friends. It also features tons of adorable dogs and cats, and heartwarming stories that are sure to make you smile—and happy-cry, so have your tissues at the ready!

The sixth episode of the series is hosted by Kristen Bell—actress, long-time animal advocate, dog foster parent, and shelter volunteer. The episode follows Patrick McDonnell, creator of “Mutts,” the charming daily comic that captures the lives of a dog and cat duo—and the occasional snail, squirrel or human. Patrick recently launched “Shelter Stories,” in which he hopes to encourage people to support their local shelters and adopt animals. The episode follows Patrick on his hunt for inspirational stories at Animal Care Centers across New York City. The resultant cartoons feature Patrick's distinctly minimal artwork and perfectly capture the powerful bond that exists between a pet and their human.

This episode also checks out the very first Cat Café in the United States—Oakland’s Cat Town Café. Learn more about the Cat Town Café here.

The series premiered this month, and the first five episodes are now available to stream for free at ShelterMe.TV and have already featured celebrities Jon Hamm, Jane Lynch, Allison Janney, Katherine Heigl and Edie Falco. Or, head to ShelterMe.TV for local TV listings.
