We often get disheartened when we see stories of animal abuse or neglect, so we are taking action and celebrating The Good News in this new feature. Too often, stories of good work on behalf of animals fly too far under the radar, and we want to shed light on these amazing animal advocates.

The call came in and Sgt. Gary Carter of the Arlington Police Department was dispatched - there was an 'aggressive' pit bull following people around a local neighborhood.

Sgt. Carter quickly located the dog and coaxed him over with a protein bar only to find that the pup was not aggressive at all, just thirsty and lost. Pitbull Jeffrey was returned to his owner and Sgt. Carter became a viral star in the process.

But the story doesn't end there.

When Jeffrey went on the run again a few short weeks later, his owner decided he had had enough and surrendered the dog. Facing a potentially unhappy ending, Sgt. Carter rescued the escapist pooch once again, this time adopting him and renaming him Chance. How inspiring!
